Fire Breaks Out At Abandoned Building In West Roxbury

BOSTON (CBS) - A large fire broke out at an abandoned pharmaceutical warehouse in West Roxbury Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 423 Lagrange Street at 7:30 p.m. Fire crews did not enter the building because it had been previously deemed hazardous.

"Companies on arrival had heavy fire throughout," Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn said. "A very difficult building to access."

It is unknown if there were any chemicals present in the building.

There are no sprinklers in the building and the fire reached five alarms within an hour. The roof and a back wall collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze.

"This place has been vacant for a while, it's sort of an eyesore in town," neighbor Jim McMahon said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

No injuries have been reported.

Service on the Needham commuter rail line was delayed due to the fire.
