Ferry Service Interrupted As Hermine Moves Up Coast

BOSTON (AP) — The approach of Tropical Storm Hermine is interrupting ferry service across southern New England.

The Steamship Authority's website announced Sunday that ferry service to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard could be suspended on Monday. The Island Queen canceled service between Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard Sunday through Monday.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation on Sunday canceled the day's last ferry trip from Newport to Providence due to the impending storm.

A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

In Connecticut, a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect along the coast, where a dangerous storm surge and wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible.

Hermine hit Florida Friday as a Category I and weakened but could regain hurricane force as it travels up the coast.
