FBI Offers $20,000 Reward For Info On Alleged MS-13 Gang Member

EVERETT (CBS) -- The FBI is offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the capture of a convicted felon and alleged gang member.

Efrain Vasquez-Yanez, 33, was indicted last January along with 55 members and associates of the La Mara Salvatrucha gang, also known as MS-13.

He was charged with RICO conspiracy and conspiracy to distribute cocaine and has a federal warrant out for his arrest.

The FBI's North Shore Gang Task Force said he should be considered armed and dangerous. In a release, they said he has "homeboy" status within the MS-13 gang; to get this status, they claim, members must kill or seriously injure a person in the name of the gang.

"Due to the aggressive, violent, and impulsive nature of MS-13 gang members, the FBI believes Vasquez-Yanez poses a serious danger to the public and we're asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact law enforcement," said Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division, in a statement Thursday.

Vasquez-Yanez was born in El Salvador. The FBI said he is 5'7" and about 140 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes, and has tattoos of the grim reaper and a skeleton on his right arm. They said he speaks both English and Spanish.

He allegedly acted as "protection" for the movement of cocaine across state lines for the gang.

The FBI said they believe Vasquez-Yanez is still in Greater Boston, but said the gang is known to move members around the country if they believe they will be arrested soon.

The bureau would like anyone with information about Vasquez-Yanez to contact them.
