Fallen Boston Firefighters Honored At Ceremony

BOSTON (CBS) - Two Boston firefighters who died battling the Back Bay fire more than a year ago were honored Saturday night during the department's 136th annual awards ceremony.

Lieutenant Edward Walsh Jr. and firefighter Michael Kennedy were posthumously awarded medals of valor for their heroic efforts. Surviving family members of both firefighters accepted the awards on their behalves.

A fast-moving fire, fed by strong winds, swept through a Beacon Street apartment building on March 26. Both men lost their lives after becoming trapped in the basement.

Several other firefighters also received honors for their courageous work.
