FALL RIVER (CBS) – The driver of a gas tanker truck was killed and another person seriously injured in a rollover crash in Fall River early Thursday morning.

It happened around 5:15 a.m. on Route 24 north near Exit 8. At least three vehicles were involved in the crash.

"Preliminary investigation indicates a tractor trailer unit pulling a tanker carrying gasoline, for reasons still under investigation, rolled over and struck another vehicle," Massachusetts State Police said.

The truck driver who was killed has only been identified as a 67-year-old man.

A 32-year-old man who was driving a passenger car was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. He is in stable condition.

The highway was closed in both directions after the crash. Traffic was diverted onto Airport Road.

Southbound lanes reopened to traffic around 1:30 p.m. Both northbound lanes were reopened by 5:00 p.m.

About 100 gallons of fuel spilled into the road, requiring a hazmat response. Crews coated the road in foam and sand to contain the fuel spill.
