Fake Ammunition Sparks 'Panic' On MBTA Bus

BOSTON (CBS) -- MBTA riders got a scare on Friday when a man on their bus appeared to have military-grade ammunition strapped to his waist.

The bullets turned out to be fake. But Boston police say they looked so convincing that several passengers called 911 after he boarded the bus at about 4:20 p.m.

The bus driver pulled over near Cambridge and Harvard streets.

"The driver stated that the passengers were in a panic, fearing that the suspect was about to pull out a weapon," Boston police said.

Kevin Young, 26, of Watertown, was taken into custody by police after exiting the bus. Officials said he was wearing "spiked fighting gloves and spiked leather bracelets."

Police found 69 total replica bullets on Young.

Young is set to appear in Brighton District Court to face charges of unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carried dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.
