Facebook Making Changes To What Users See In News Feed

MENLO PARK, Calif. (CBS) – Get ready for some changes in your Facebook News Feed.

The social network announced this week that it's tinkering with the algorithm that determines what appears on the top of users' News Feeds.

Currently, what's featured prominently in the News Feed is determined by what users are liking, clicking, commenting on or sharing. But Facebook says it has recently been asking people whether they actually wanted to see the content that appears at the top of their feed, and will make adjustments accordingly.

"News Feed will begin to look at both the probability that you would want to see the story at the top of your feed and the probability that you will like, comment on, click or share a story." Facebook engineers said in a blog post. "We will rank stories higher in feed which we think people might take action on, and which people might want to see near the top of their News Feed."

Those who run Facebook pages may also see some changes.

"In general this update should not impact reach or referral traffic meaningfully for the majority of Pages; however, some Pages may see some increases in referral traffic, and some Pages may see some declines in referral traffic," Facebook says.
