1 Dead In Holden 3-Alarm Fire
HOLDEN (CBS) – One person was killed in a 3-alarm fire in Holden on Sunday morning.
Explosions were reported at 18 Farragut Way, requiring firefighters from several surrounding towns to respond.
"There was heavy fire, it took 20 minutes to put it out," Holden Fire Chief Jack Chandler said.
At least two explosions were reported at the home, which sustained heavy damage, fire officials said.
"The whole back of the house was blown out," said Paul Moisan, who was driving by at the time and tried to help. "We were banging on the door, looking in the window, but nobody answered, obviously."
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office were on scene as of late Sunday afternoon.
"We're looking to speak to some additional witnesses and family members as we continue to put this case together," State Fire Marshall Stephen Coan said.
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's office are also investigating the death.
No information was released about the person who died.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
