Driver Killed In Fiery Crash At Everett Turnpike Toll Booth

BEDFORD, N.H. (CBS) – A driver was killed after a fiery crash at the tolls on the Everett Turnpike in New Hampshire.

Northbound lanes were closed to traffic and detoured to Exit 13 after the crash, which happened around 1 p.m. in Bedford. Two lanes reopened about two hours later.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation said a vehicle in the third northbound lane was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rolled over and caught fire.

A witness said he believed the driver was swerving away from a closed toll lane into one that was open.

"I mean it must have been a quick second-and-a-half and then it immediately caught in flames. The smoke was as high as you could see. It was bigger than a big bonfire," said witness Jordan Geoffroy.

"We are still trying to identify who was in the vehicle at this time," said New Hampshire State Police Sgt. Bryan Trask. "We know it was a silver truck of some sort."

NHDOT said there was no one in the toll booth at the time of the crash. The crash took place in an E-Z Pass lane.
