Parishioners Hold Mother's Day Mass At Everett School Following Church Fire

EVERETT (CBS) -- A fire broke out early Sunday morning inside the Immaculate Conception Church on Broadway in Everett, but parishioners didn't let it stop their Mother's Day Mass.

"The church was on fire so for me, it was like my spirit collapsed," one parishioner told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton.

There were people inside at the time, but everyone made it out safely. Unfortunately, the fire damage forced parishioners to have worship at a nearby school.

"We pulled up this morning to get ready to cook and we are hurt," said parishioner Peter Napolitano. "It's a beautiful church and a great part of the community."

Investigators were searching for a cause Sunday. Right now it's still unclear if this was an accident or intentionally set.

"I don't know if it was an accident until they finish the investigation but it's crazy if someone did do it," said parishioner Lisa Castronovo. "Why would they do it?"
