Ed Davis: Expect Tsarnaev Trial To Reveal New Information About Marathon Bombings

BOSTON (CBS) -- Former Boston Police Commissioner and WBZ-TV Security Analyst Ed Davis says he expects previously unknown information about the Boston Marathon bombings to be revealed during the trial of suspected bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

"There are things that no one knows about that will be presented, and I think that's very healthy for the public and the victims as well," Davis told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "I can't speak to the evidence in this particular case, but I can tell you that in every criminal case prosecutors keep evidence for production at the trial."

Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in April 2013. Jury selection for Tsarnaev's trial began Monday, and that process could take several weeks.

"At this juncture we're close to closing this chapter," Davis said. "All the evidence will be out there."

Davis said that it's typical to see new information come out during a criminal case.

"That's part of the reason for the trial, that the evidence comes out in a manner that is acceptable to the judicial system, but it also is a process whereby the community gets to see exactly what happened," Davis said. "I think you'll see that play out in this trial."
