Easton Auto Shops Destroyed By Fire

EASTON (CBS) – Two Easton auto shops were destroyed by a Thursday night fire that also destroyed 16 cars.

Firefighters were called to 4 Hayward Street just after 7 p.m. and found Bill's Auto and Easton Auto Body engulfed in flames.

Dealer's Choice Auto, which is located in an attached building, was saved from damage, as was a nearby home that had steam rising off of it resulting from the fire.

Flames broke through the roof of the businesses within 5-10 minutes of firefighter arrival.

Paint supplies likely helped the fire spread, and crews were ordered out of the building as a precaution.

The fire was under control by about 9 p.m., though firefighters were on scene until 2:30 a.m.

There were no injuries during the fire and no one was inside when the flames began. Easton Auto Body workers had left the building for the day just about 30 minutes before the fire.

In total, 16 cars were destroyed in the blaze, which took place in a congested residential area.

No cause of the fire has been identified, though it is not considered suspicious.
