Early-Morning Fire Heavily Damages East Boston Apartments, Business

BOSTON (CBS) – A fire early Saturday morning in East Boston heavily damaged a business and apartment building on Bennington Street.

Nine people fled their apartments at around 4:30, the Boston Fire Department said.

One firefighter was injured while battling the blaze, which was caused by an electrical short circuit in the ceiling of a second-floor apartment.

Damage to the building at 132 Bennington St. was estimated at $350,000.
