Alleged Drug Dealer Charged In Fentanyl Overdose Death

TAUNTON (CBS) – An alleged drug dealer has been arrested in connection with an overdose death in the town of Berkley earlier this year.

The Bristol County District Attorney says 22-year-old Scott Reynolds of Taunton is charged with manslaughter, distribution of Fentanyl and possession of heroin in the death of 25-year-old Marc Esperanca.

Esperanca's mother found him unresponsive in their Berkley home on April 5. He died later that day at Morton Hospital. An autopsy revealed Esperanca died of a Fentanyl overdose.

Esperanca's phone was located by his mother and examined by State Police. The phone then led police to Reynolds who was allegedly selling heroin out of a Norton home.

Authorities say Reynolds warned Esperanca about the drugs he was about to buy, sending a text message that read: "on a serious note brother please be careful for real this is the best sh** I have had yet so don't do to much at once for real man."

Reynolds will be arraigned in Fall River Superior Court Friday morning.
