'It Was Terrifying': Driver Injured By Falling Tree In Sudbury

SUDBURY (CBS) -- A 32-year-old Whitman man was injured after a tree fell on his car in Sudbury Friday. It happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Route 20 at Brimstone Lane.

"All of a sudden I could see a tree coming down, but it happened so fast," Nick Rand said. "It caved in my car, I couldn't get out of my driver's side; I couldn't get out of the back seat."

Rand said it happened while he was driving to work.

"I braced myself, thank God I was wearing my seatbelt," Rand said. "It was terrifying."

Sudbury Police say strong winds and rot likely caused the tree to fall.

"The tree had fallen across the entire width of Boston Post Road requiring us to shut it down for a period of time, so we had a lot of traffic navigation to do given the rush hour," said Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix.

Rand was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Looking at his car now, he says it's a miracle he was not seriously injured.

"By the grace of God, I am alright no issues at all just glass in my hands," he said. "Shaken up still. But I'm here and I am alive. I just got to go look for a new car now."
