Driver Convicted In Arborway Crash That Left Two People Seriously Injured

BOSTON (CBS) – A jury has convicted the driver that caused a crash on the Arborway in Jamaica Plain that left two people with life-changing injuries.

Nikolas Papadopoulos, 20, has been found guilty of negligent operation. He was 18 when he crashed into a pickup truck and critically injured two people.

Prosecutors argued Papadopoulos was speeding on the Arborway in September of 2013, reaching speeds of up to 80 miles an hour when he lost control of his SUV, clipped the median and slammed into the truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 33-year-old Dorchester man, suffered life-altering injuries and can no longer move or communicate on his own. A 34-year-old Quincy man in the truck suffered less serious injuries.

A teenager in Papadopoulos' car was ejected and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He now uses a wheelchair. Another passenger in the SUV was seriously injured.

The defense argued that another vehicle may have caused the accident.

Papadopoulos will be sentenced on February 3.
