Driver Charged In Bourne Rotary Tanker Crash

BOSTON (CBS) – The driver of a tanker that crashed in the Bourne Rotary last week now faces charges.

State Police announced Monday that Thomas Medeiros, 47, of Westport, has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and failure to stay within marked lanes.

Medeiros was driving a tanker that was carrying 11,500 gallons of gasoline when it crashed at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The rotary was closed for hours after the crash. (WBZ-TV)

He was not seriously hurt, but the Bourne Bridge and Rotary were shut down for about 10 hours Wednesday morning.

About 5,000 gallons of fuel leaked into the ground and the Cape Cod Canal.

State Police said the environmental cleanup of the land in and around the rotary continues this week.
