Hearing Set For Massachusetts Fantasy Sports Rules
BOSTON (AP) — Proposed rules for online fantasy sports contests will be getting a public airing in Boston.
Democratic Attorney General Maura Healey unveiled regulations in November that would allow companies like FanDuel and Boston-based DraftKings to continue operating in Massachusetts. A hearing on Healey's plan is scheduled for Tuesday at the Saltonstall state building.
Healey's office spent several weeks examining whether daily fantasy sports contests were legal in the Bay State before announcing what she called aggressive, first-in-the-nation rules that include age and advertising restrictions and disclosure requirements.
They would also limit most betters to $1,000 per month.
DraftKings and FanDuel are challenging determinations by the attorneys general of New York and Illinois that the contests are illegal in those states.
The two companies have offered qualified support for Healey's proposals.
