Driver Who Hit Pedestrians In Downtown Crossing Was Unlicensed

BOSTON (CBS) – The woman who was behind the wheel during a crash that injured three pedestrians in Downtown Crossing does not have a driver's license according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Police say Shanitqua Steele of Needham was driving at the intersection of Washington and School Streets Thursday afternoon when she hit a woman, boy and third person before she tried to drive away.

Steele appeared in court on Friday and was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail.

MassDOT told WBZ-TV that Steele holds a Massachusetts ID card but not a driver's license.

A 63-year-old woman visiting Boston from Spain was injured in the crash along with a 45-year-old Milford woman and her 9-year-old son.

Steele pleaded not guilty during her Friday court appearance.
