Downed Wires Spark House Fire In Lawrence

BOSTON (CBS) – Strong winds knocked down wires Wednesday night leaving thousands without power in Eastern Mass.

In Lawrence, downed power lines caused a fire on Sargent Street. It happened when a limb from a large tree fell next to a home and took down some wires.

The power lines hit the side of the house and started sparking. There were several people inside at the time but everyone got out safely. Several pets had to be rescued.

Firefighters got the blaze under control late Wednesday night but the home is a total loss.

One firefighter was transported but he was conscious and alert.

Downed wires also were to blame for a fire in Swampscott.
