Dougie Hamilton Traded To Calgary Flames For Draft Picks
BOSTON (CBS) -- Dougie Hamilton's time in Boston is over.
The Bruins traded the defenseman to Calgary on Friday, in exchange for the 15th overall pick in Friday night's draft, as well as the 45th and 52nd pick (second round).
Hamilton, 22, was drafted ninth overall by the Bruins in the 2011 draft. He spent the next season-and-a-half with the Niagara Ice Dogs of the OHL, tallying 113 points (25 goals, 88 assists) and posting a plus-62 rating in 82 games.
He made his much-anticipated NHL debut in January 2013, after the NHL lockout concluded. He posted 5-11-16 totals and a plus-4 rating in 42 games. He played in just seven playoff games that spring, registering three assists and an even rating.
In the two seasons since, he's upped his point total to 25 in 2013-14 and 42 (10-32-42) last season.
With Hamilton entering the summer as a restricted free agent, and with Don Sweeney left to navigate what Peter Chiarelli left the team in terms of salary cap space, negotiations with Hamilton were a bit tricky for the Bruins. Given his age, position and production, Hamilton would command a salary of well over $5 million on the open market.
