DORCHESTER (CBS) -- An 18-year-old woman is in critical but stable condition after she was hit by a car while crossing the street to catch a bus Wednesday night.

Massachusetts State Police said the crash happened around 9:15 p.m. at Gallivan Boulevard and Milton Avenue.

They said the woman was struck by a Pontiac GT as she crossed Gallivan Boulevard to catch a bus after leaving a friend's house.

She was taken to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, did stop at the scene and was interviewed by troopers.

His car was taken to a State Police facility for examination. The Suffolk District Attorney's office said he showed no signs of impairment, and they don't believe he was using his phone at the time of the crash.

Police are investigating in order to determine whether or not the man will be charged.
