BOSTON (CBS) – Police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting on Saturday afternoon that wounded a 30-year-old man.

Mackenzie Guillaume, 27, of Mattapan and Hubman Hunter, 25, of Dorchester were charged with assault with intent to murder, unlawfully possessing a firearm, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police said.

Boston Police officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made the arrests about 2:11 p.m. Saturday, after responding to a shooting in the area of Harvard and Warner Streets in Dorchester.

Officers were in the area on directed patrol when they heard the sound shots being fired nearby, police said.

After searching the area, officers found a 30-year-old male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.

Police later apprehended Guillaume and Hunter in the area of Centre Street and Talbot Avenue. Both men are expected to appear in Dorchester District Court on Monday.

In a statement, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans praised the officers who made the arrests.

"An incident like this continues to show that my officers are out there every day in the neighborhoods we serve," Evans said. "They were in the right place at the right time and responded immediately to this brazen act of violence in broad daylight. I can't thank them enough for their bravery and their professionalism. I'm grateful that no one else was hurt and that those responsible are in custody."
