Man Shot, Killed At Start Of 2019 In Dorchester

BOSTON (CBS) – A man was killed in Dorchester, just hours after the start of the new year.

Boston Police say he was shot just after 3 a.m. on Johnston Road.

A witness told WBZ-TV the man was attending a New Year's party and stepped outside. When he came back in, he had been shot. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.

His name has not been made public. There have been no arrests.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.

Celeste Goncalves says the victim came into her apartment after he was shot. She said she worries about the violent incident in her neighborhood.

"It could effect one of my kids. I have two girls. I don't want nothing like this to happen to nobody's kids. Because I'm a mother and it hurts," she said.

This was the first murder in Boston for 2019. There were a total of 56 in 2018, down one from 2017.
