DORCHESTER (CBS) -- A man was shot and killed Tuesday morning while he sat getting his hair cut in a Dorchester barber shop.

Police said the shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. at Creole International Style, near the intersection of Stoughton and Pleasant Streets. They have not made any arrests and are searching for a suspect.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was sitting in a chair in the back when a masked gunman came in and shot him.

According to those who worked in the shop, the victim was a regular customer and a familiar face. They said he was around 19-20 years old, and estimated the gunman was around the same age.

He was taken to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Owner Djonny Fernandes translated for one of his barbers, who said the gunman came in without saying a word and shot the man.

Witnesses said they heard three to four gunshots.

"It would be surprising to any barbershop, because you don't expect things like this to happen in any barbershop," said one area resident.

There were bullet holes in the walls of the shop Tuesday afternoon--and in one spot, police investigators cut part of the wall away.

People in the area said it was a sign of the times we live in.

"This is a good community, people are just here not making right choices," said one woman.
