Dorchester Murder Victim Remembered As Genuine, Funny
DORCHESTER (CBS) – Friends remembered Dawn Jaffier Thursday night describing her as funny, honest, genuine and passionate about mentoring children.
Jaffier, 26, was shot and killed last week as she walked in a parade linked to the city's Caribbean festival.
Keith Williams, 18, of Dorchester, has been charged with her murder.
A vigil was held for Jaffier at Ringer Park behind the West End Boys & Girls Club Thursday night. Jaffier had worked with children at the club.
Vigil attendees said Jaffier, who mentored children in several roles, was always serving her community, trustworthy, honest and funny, WBZ NewsRadio 1030 reported.
Jaffier's father, Ian, said he was concerned about the alleged killer's family.
"Whoever the perpetrator was, I want to say a prayer for their family. If you could, you know, turn back the hands of time and maybe pick up a book instead of pick up a gun at such a festive occasion, we wouldn't all have to be here," Jaffier said.
