Dorchester Man Tells Bus Driver, T Police, He Wants To Punch Them 'In The Mouth'

BOSTON (CBS) --- A Dorchester man allegedly stated his desire punch a Route 22 bus driver 'in the mouth' before assaulting him, Saturday morning.

Transit Police were called to Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road for a report of a disorderly man. According to witnesses, Joel Casanova, 34, had allegedly been harassing a female passenger. When the woman told Casanova she wanted to be left alone, he went to the back of the bus and began shouting profanities and threats at the bus driver for no known reason.

Casanova then left his seat and charged toward the bus driver while he was driving. The driver told police he feared for his safety as well as that of the passengers and stopped the bus.

Upon reaching the driver, Casanova allegedly forcefully pushed the driver's head into the driver's side window. Casanova then fled the bus.

Officers caught up to Casanova who appeared to be intoxicated, Casanova stated his desire to "punch the operator in the mouth."

When informed that would not be possible Casanova inquired of the officer if he could "punch" the officer in the mouth instead.

Casanova was placed into custody for interfering with public transportation and assault & battery on a public employee.

Casanova is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Dorchester District Court.
