Don McLean's Barnstable Concert Canceled After Students Object

BARNSTABLE (CBS) – A scheduled concert by Don McLean at a Cape Cod high school has been canceled after students protested the appearance due to the singer's recent domestic violence arrest.

Spectacle Management, the group organizing McLean's concert that was scheduled to take place in April at Barnstable High School, confirmed to WBZ-TV that the event has been canceled.

McLean, the "American Pie" singer, was arrested on domestic violence charges involving his wife following a January incident in Maine.

Police arrested McLean on six charges. He pleaded not guilty to all counts.

When Barnstable school officials announced the concert, students wrote a letter to the superintendent asking to stop the performance because McLean is "a bad role model."
