Dog Rescued From Bourne Pond After Falling Through Ice

BOURNE (CBS) --- A very lucky dog was rescued after falling through the ice Wednesday afternoon.

Bourne Fire responded to Queen Sewell Pond off Cherry Street after an owner reported their dog ran out onto the ice and fell through, about 40 yards from shore.

A fire lieutenant put on a survival suit and crawled out onto the ice and lowered himself in behind the dog. He was able to secure the dog, which was struggling and exhausted, with ropes.

On shore, additional crews pulled the dog to dry land.

Within eight minutes, the dog was pulled from the water and taken to an area veterinarian. The dog appeared to be doing well, Bourne Fire said.
