Dog, Last Seen Running On Mass Pike, Found Safe After 10-Day Search

BOSTON (CBS) -- A dog last seen running alongside traffic on the Mass Pike ten days ago has been reunited with his worried owner.

Indy, an Akita/Great Pyrenees mix, darted away from Lauren Berluti and her new apartment on Comm. Ave. on October 16.

"I'm so happy. I'm so thankful," Berluti said Thursday night. "I haven't like slept or eaten since this has happened cause he means everything to me."

By the time the police came, Indy had headed toward the Pike, where video sent by a witness showed cars slowing down to avoid hitting him as he ran between them.

Over the last ten days, the dog was spotted on the Mass Pike, Storrow Drive, around Harvard Stadium, and in Cambridgeport.

"We wish we had a GoPro [camera] because I'm dying to know what he's seen," Berluti said.

On Thursday morning, Indy was spotted running along Storrow Drive East toward Cambridge.

It took several hours, but Boston Animal Care & Control, Missing Dogs of Massachusetts, Mass. State Police, and Cambridge Animal Control tracked Indy and corralled him into a dog park.

"I can't believe it and the fact that the vet said nothing is wrong with him," said Berluti.

"I'm shocked. I'm so happy like I can't wait to hear his claws following me around begging for food again."

Indy will soon be getting a GPS collar just in case he takes off again.
