Disabled Fishing Vessel Rescued 115 Miles Out To Sea
GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A fishing crew has been rescued after a fouled anchor line stranded it about 115 miles east of Gloucester.
The Coast Guard says the four-person crew aboard the 61-foot Angela Michelle contacted the Sector Boston Command Center on Saturday when its line became wrapped in the ship's rudder and propeller.
Crews from the Legare, a 270-foot Coast Guard cutter from Portsmouth, Virginia, arrived on scene and towed the vessel toward Gloucester.
They were met at about 9 a.m. Sunday by a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Gloucester who relieved tow and took the Angela Michelle into port. They arrived safely at the pier in Gloucester at about 1 p.m.
The Coast Guard says the Angela Michelle crew is making arrangements for a commercial diver to free the line so it could continue fishing.
