Derailed Commuter Rail Train In Andover Causes Major Delays

BOSTON (CBS) - Tuesday turned out to be another difficult day on some sections of the MBTA and officials are blaming the cold weather.

The worst disruption happened on the Haverhill Commuter Rail line. An out of service train partially derailed in Lawrence just north of Andover.

The train stayed upright and nobody was hurt, but passengers headed to Boston had to be bused between Lawrence and Andover where they got on-board and headed south.

Commuters like Donna Neylon were quick to speak out. "Accidents happen, there's nothing they can really do about a derailment but to raise our rates by ten percent isn't really what I want while I'm standing outside in eight degrees."

Service was restored by early afternoon as the train was moved out of the way. State and Transit Police also checked out the tracks but say there is no indication of any tampering.

On the Red Line Tuesday morning, the T had to bus passengers between JFK-UMass and Ashmont because of a broken track.
