Public Skating Sessions To Benefit Injured Hockey Player Denna Laing

BOSTON (CBS) – A chain of ice rinks will attempt to raise $10,000 to help cover the medical costs of a hockey player injured at the women's Winter Classic.

Denna Laing suffered a spinal cord injury on New Year's Eve while playing for the Boston Pride at Gillette Stadium.

After crashing into the boards, Laing lost feeling in her legs and has limited use of her arms.

In the weeks after Laing was injured, the Bruins, NHL and other organizations around the country have donated to help cover the cost of her medical bills.

On Sunday all 24 Massachusetts skating rinks operated by FMC Ice Sports will donate one dollar from each public skating admission to the Denna Laing Fund.

"Denna is part of our ice sports community and an amazing example of how personal courage and positive outlook can overcome even the most tragic events" FMC President Rob McBride said on the business' website.

"We all shared the heartache of Denna's injury on December 31st and have been inspired beyond words since that day watching her battle back with tenacity and a spirit that knows no bounds."
