Democrat Keating Wins Re-Election In 9th District

BOSTON (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. William Keating has won his re-election bid, defeating Republican challenger John Chapman in Massachusetts' 9th Congressional District.

After last year's Boston Marathon bombing, Keating pushed for an amendment to encourage stronger intelligence sharing among federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Keating also was part of a congressional delegation that met with Russian security officials in Moscow to pursue information related to the bombing investigation. More recently, Keating opposed President Barack Obama's proposal to prepare Syrian rebels for a war against Islamic State militants.

Chapman had criticized Keating as being "invisible and ineffective."

The district includes the state's south shore and south coast, as well as Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

Keating was first elected to the U.S. House in 2010.
