David Ortiz Out Of Red Sox Lineup With Illness

BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is out of Sunday's lineup against the New York Yankees because of an upper respiratory illness.

Manager John Farrell said he was waiting to see how Ortiz felt before posting the lineup. About 45 minutes later, the club listed the lineup without Ortiz's name.

The 39-year old Ortiz is hitting .231 with 15 homers and 43 RBIs. He went 2 for 3 with a walk in Saturday's 5-3 win.

Ortiz has played first base twice in this eight-game homestand, which concludes against the Yankees. It's the first time he's played first in Fenway Park since 2005.

The Red Sox are looking to win their fifth straight series.
