BOSTON (CBS) – The driver who hit and killed a Massachusetts State Police trooper on the Mass. Pike has been released from the hospital.

State Police say 30-year-old David Njuguna of Webster is due in court April 27 on charges of negligent operation, failure to stay within marked lanes and speeding.

Trooper Thomas Clardy was killed March 16 when his cruiser was struck by Njuguna's Nissan Maxima during a traffic stop in Charlton.

Witnesses say Njuguna's vehicle was operating at a high rate of speed before the crash. State Police said Njuguna, for unknown reasons, swerved across three lanes of traffic and hit Clardy's SUV. Njuguna suffered serious injuries in the crash.

More charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
