Good Samaritan Rescues 2 People From Sinking Boat In Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH (CBS) – A Good Samaritan rescued two people from a sinking boat in Dartmouth on Sunday.

The Coast Guard was called to Padanaram Harbor where a 17-foot boat was taking on water.

Rescuers learned that two people had been saved from the boat before their arrival.

The boat eventually sunk. It has not yet been located.

"I think just whether they were anchored or not, I think they took a wave over the stern. It was a 17-foot boat and a good amount of water went in. The two guys maybe just had a bad position on the wave, stood the boat right up and it went quick," said Dartmouth Fire Cpt. Peter Andrade.

The two men from Taunton escaped injury when the boat sank.

Water temperatures were around 60 degrees at the time of the incident, so time was of the essence.

"Lucky that this is a busy harbor and folks were out there enjoying the day," said Andrade. "Somebody witnessed the whole incident, so they shot right over there and plucked them out of the water."
