Massachusetts Officials React To 'Senseless' Attacks On Dallas Police Officers

BOSTON (CBS) – Massachusetts officials and police departments reacted in shock Friday morning to the news of sniper attacks on police in Dallas that left five officers dead and seven others injured.

Police cornered the shooter in a parking garage at El Centro College in the downtown area immediately following the Thursday night shooting. At that point, police sent in a remote vehicle and detonated a bomb — ultimately killing him.

The rally came after two black men were shot and killed by police officers in recent days in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Michael Curry, president of the Boston chapter of the NAACP, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 the organization condemns the attacks on police officers.

"There's no one that I know who loves justice, who loves life, who espouses Christian values that would find any satisfaction out of what's happening in Dallas," said Curry.

Curry said the organization will parade today for the victims of the Dallas shootings as well as the fatal shooting sin Minnesota and Louisiana.

Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police were among the local departments sharing their support for Dallas.

Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker the Dallas attack is a "game-changer," adding that no training can prepare officers for such an incident.

Congressman Seth Moulton, who has been outspoken in support of gun control measures, urged for the country to come together in the aftermath of the shootings.

"My God, my God. We must come together as Americans, as a Congress, and find unity in action before this senseless violence tears us apart," Moulton tweeted.
