Soft-Serve Lovers Rejoice: Dairy Queen Reportedly Expanding In Massachusetts

BOSTON (CBS) -- Dairy Queen will be adding dozens of new franchises in Massachusetts as part of a planned national expansion, the Boston Globe reports.

"I think it's safe to say, there's going to be a blizzard of Dairy Queens there,"Jim Kerr, a vice president at Minneapolis-based International Dairy Queen, told The Globe.

The Globe said the 60 new "quick-service restaurants" would be added over the next five years.

Massachusetts already has 33 Dairy Queen franchises.

In 2005, according to Dairy Queen's website, the Springfield, Mass. location built the largest Blizzard treat ever made, weighing 8,224.85 pounds and standing 22 feet tall.

The news comes just in time for Free Cone Day on Tuesday.
