Daily Talker: What Do You Think About A School's ChapStick Ban?
A school district has banned ChapStick. District officials claim lip balm is an over-the-counter drug. If students want to use it they need to bring a doctor's note and the school nurse has to hold it for them. Sound ridiculous? One fifth-grader thinks so. She's fighting to be allowed to use ChapStick in school. 11-year-old Grace Karaffa says her lips have become so chapped they've bled. Karaffa started a petition and got 300 signatures supporting her push.
She presented it to the school board in Virginia. They're still considering it. The school board says the ban was put in place after a disease outbreak. They worry that could happen again if students share lip balm. What do you think about the school's ChapStick ban?
