Daily Talker: Teal Pumpkin Project

If you've noticed some brightly colored teal pumpkins on your neighbor's porch, they're not just being artsy.

It's a campaign designed to promote a safe and fun Halloween for everyone. Homes that display a teal pumpkin outside on Halloween signals that it's allergy-friendly. Trick-or-treaters will know you have a non-candy item to give.

As an alternative, people can buy non-food treats like glow sticks, bubbles, kazoos, spider rings, stickers, and vampire fangs.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that food allergies among children have increased 50 percent in the last 18 years.

The movement, known as the Teal Pumpkin Project started last year, and has kicked off around the country and world-wide.
