Daily Talker: Students Banned From Basketball Game

Some local high school students were banned from cheering on their team at the TD Garden. Catholic Memorial took on Cambridge Rindge and Latin for the Division 1 state semi-finals on Monday night. But Catholic Memorial students were told not to come. That decision was made after an ugly incident last week. Some Catholic Memorial students chanted anti-Semitic taunts during a game against Newton North High School, a school with a large Jewish population. School officials promised to better educate their students about intolerance. But they said that wasn't enough. The student ban was announced.

While these moves are being applauded from organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, some students, parents and alumni say the ban was too harsh. Some told WBZ the ban forced students to miss out on the rare chance of seeing their team play on the Celtics' parquet. Others say it gave the competition an advantage. Students from another rival school wore red in support of Catholic Memorial saying their team needed support in the stands.

Cambridge Rindge and Latin beat Catholic Memorial 77 to 73. What do you think? Was this punishment fair?
