Daily Talker: Should February School Vacation Week End?

Most students in Massachusetts are on vacation this week. One of the exceptions is Taunton.

Because of concerns about the number of snow days in past years, the district changed its calendar. Instead of a week off in February, students got only a four-day weekend.

State law requires students be in class 180 days each year. Taunton's contract with the teachers' union says August 29 is the earliest day teachers can be required to report, and snow days pushed the end of the year nearly to the end of June.

Other districts are watching what's happening in Taunton, which could mean more students could see the February vacation week disappear.

What do you think? Should the February break be eliminated, or should the tradition continue? Share your comments below, and watch for them on WBZ News in the Morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.
