Daily Talker: School Day Extended

This week, the Boston Teachers Union will vote on a proposal to add 40 minutes to the school day. It's a move that will impact more than 23,000 elementary and middle school students.

Right now, Boston elementary school students currently are in school for six hours per day while middle school students are in class for six hours and ten minutes.

Last month, Mayor Marty Walsh said the additional 40 minutes each day will be the equivalent of adding one month of instruction per year for elementary school students. It will also nearly double the amount of planning and development time for teachers, Walsh said.

The proposal will go before a vote on Wednesday.

Do you think adding 40 minutes to the school day is a good idea?
