Daily Talker: President's Coffee Cup Salute

On Tuesday, President Obama saluted two Marines while holding a cup of coffee in his hand as he stepped off Marine One.  The White House Instagram account posted video of the brief scene, which happened as the President arrived in New York for the U.N. General Assembly.  Some have criticized the President for the coffee cup salute while others say the gesture has been overblown.  The U.S. Navy Manual on customs and courtesies recommends not saluting when one is "carrying articles with both hands or being otherwise so occupied as to make saluting impractical."  What do you think?  Was President Obama's coffee cup salute disrespectful or was the gesture overblown?
