Daily Talker: Graduation Gown Changes

Unity versus tradition. Something will be different at Portsmouth High School's graduation next month. For decades, boys wore maroon gowns and girls wore white gowns for graduation. But this year, all of the graduating students will wear the same gown incorporating both colors. The superintendent says the new gowns are maroon with white cuffs and, "the decision to change robes was one that began last spring with the graduation planning committee. The decision was driven by an interest in creating a fully united look for graduation." Some students are applauding the move saying it unites the class. But others, including some alumni, say they are disappointed to see the long-standing tradition end. What do you think?
