Daily Talker: Getting Rid Of Traffic Lights?

Imagine a world without traffic lights. You would never be stuck sitting at a red light again. MIT researchers are working on a plan that they claim would eliminate traffic lights, reduce traffic and eventually allow twice as many vehicles on the roads. Here's how it works: each car would communicate with a computer that manages the intersection. That computer would tell the car whether to speed up or slow down allowing it to pass safely through that intersection. No stopping! They say the Slot-based Intersections would speed up traffic flow.  The catch, this would require self-driving vehicles. What do you think?  Could this work? Would you like to get rid of traffic lights?
