Daily Talker: Four-Day School Week

Students in a western Massachusetts school district could soon be going to class just four days a week.

The superintendent of Mohawk Trail Regional School District says not only would the plan save money, it would also help students. He says the shorter weeks would save on transportation and utility costs, and some other districts that have switched have improved their test scores.

The district covers nine towns, including Ashfield, Plainfield, and Shelburne. The school day would have to be expanded by about 90 minutes to meet state requirements.

Would you support a four-day school week for your students? What about potential problems like daycare for parents, or the impacts on extra-curricular activities being moved into the evening? Share your comments below.
