DA: Critically Injured Teen May Have Been Assaulted

EVERETT (CBS) -- An 18-year-old woman found unconscious in a driveway in Everett Saturday morning appears to be an assault victim, officials say.

She was found unresponsive at 6:45 a.m. on Appleton Street and taken to a Boston hospital where she was treated for severe hypothermia and listen in "extremely critical" condition, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.

"Unfortunately, this may have been an assault on someone who had been drinking with a group of people at a nearby home and who may have been attacked after leaving that party," Ryan said. "Investigators are speaking with individuals who were with the victim in an effort to form a complete picture of what led up to the victim being outside and on the ground when she was discovered."

Police are investigating the case.

"Our hope is that we can uncover what occurred to this young lady and pray that she will recover from this tragic incident," said Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie.
