BOSTON (CBS) – Over 200 bicyclists set off from Boston College on a ride to Connecticut as they raise money for ALS research.

The 13th annual Tri-State Trek began at around 6 a.m. Friday as cyclists began their ride from Boston to Greenwich, Conn.

In total the ride includes 270 miles over the next three days.

Fundraising efforts benefit the ALS Therapy Development Institute of Cambridge.

"We know as we're riding these miles, we're doing it for them. Our misery, if you might call it that, as we're going over these miles by no means is anything compared to ALS," said David Virden of the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
